I live in Paphos and I own a Corvette Stingray that I bought from a local Cypriot. I had seen the car several times in passing on the road with a ‘for sale’ in the window and it always appealed to me. I got the chance to speak with the then owner and after a few drinks (too many) we made a deal and that was that. The next morning when I was a bit more sober, I looked at the car and said to myself ‘Oh my God, what have I done?’ After washing all the dirt and dust off the car it did not look good at all. The paintwork looked like crazy paving and it was hard to start. When it was running, it overheated and backfired through the carburettor with a big flame coming out of the hole in the bonnet.
I wasn’t happy. The cherry on the cake came, when at a crossroads I tried to shoot across a bit too quick, a huge flame spat out of the carburettor from the misfire, toasted what was left of the bonnet and the passenger side front wing.
A work friend had told me of a guy in Larnaca that did really good work who he had used himself. So, it was off to Larnaca. I meet Steve, he really seemed to know his stuff and I was desperate to restore my image. I wanted a really cool car that was reliable with looks to match. I was happy to leave the Corvette at Steves place as I was sick of driving it in the state it was in. Over a period of several weeks I was driving all the way to Larnaca as often as I could to see what was going on.
Steve is just an amazing guy, he fabricated lots of bits for the engine in stainless steel, he sorted out the carburettor and all the overheating problems as well as so many other things that were either faulty or falling off. He threw away the big metal belt driven fan and fabricated mountings and shields to mount electric fans, also the engine was sorted out. The car was just transformed. When we went down for the last time to pick up the car, mechanically you could just not believe that it was the same car I had driven down a few weeks ago, my girlfriend took loads of photos that day. The car drove really well and performance was up 100%.
The car is now back at Steves, he is making a new bonnet for me out of a moulding he had made for another customer and I will be back again to have the whole car re-sprayed, hopefully in the summer.
I am really happy with what Steve has done to my Corvette, we call him the Car doctor, a really nice guy. I highly recommend him
